Young, 46, placed 13th recently among the winningest active coaches in the NCAA Division I. During his five years at Purdue, the Boilermakers have won three consecutive post-season games the Peach Bowl in 1978, the Blue-bonnet Bowl in 1979 and the Liberty Bowl in 1980. His record is 38-18-1 with only Saturday's Big Ten Conference finale against Indiana remaining.

Before coming to Purdue, the Van Wert, Ohio, native coached four seasons at the University of Arizona. His career record was 64-26-1 at the start of Purdue's current season. will be present at Sunday's news conference to announce plans for-finding Young's successor. "This is a career change," Young said after announcing his decision to resign to his players after Wednesday's practice. "After 26 years of coaching, my family and I have decided to concentrate on athletic administration here at Purdue," Young said.
