rflH Paragraph F3 Bloomlngton-Normal, III. Nov. 23, 1972 ig 8 championship at stake as Sooners meet Nebraska i Another confrontation will be between a pair of All-Americans Oklahoma offensive center Tom Brahaney and Nebraska defensive middle guard Rich Glover. Both teams feature superior defenses although statistics appear to give the edge to Oklahoma. The Sooners have gU ven up only 45 points in nine games, including 20 to Colorado in the only loss of the season, while Nebraska's "black shirts" have yielded 74 points in 10 games.

But the Nebraska offense, led by sophomore quarterback Dave Humm's 1,970 yards passing and 17 touchdown throws, has averaged 44.7 points per The Cornhuskcrs then went on to whip Alabama in the Orange Bowl to clinch a second straight national title, while Oklahoma crushed Auburn in the Sugar Bowl and wound up second. Both teams again are headed for the same bowls. This year, Nebraska is ranked fifth with an 8-1-1 record and a 4-0-1 Big Eight log, while the Sooners are fourth-rated, 8-1 and 4-1. "We've got to be more ready for Oklahoma than we've been at any time this year," warns Nebraska Coach Bob Devaney. "This Is really the outstanding team we will have faced to date this year." Devaney, who Is retiring as a coach after the current season, will be leading the Cornhuskcrs for the last time in Lincoln.

He won his 100th game as Husker head coach last week against Kansas State. Oklahoma Coach Chuck Fairbanks, who will be seeking his 50th career victory, also warned his club about the Cornhuskers. "It will take our best performance of the season In every respect to win," he said. Focal point of attention for opposing defenses are Greg Pruitt, of the Sooners and Johnny Rodgers of Nebraska, who rushes, catches passes, returns kicks and gives defensive coaches ulcers. However, Pruitt suffered an ankle bruise last week and may be handicapped by H.

Both Pruitt and Rodgers figure to rank high in balloting for the Hcisman trophy. LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) The national championship Is not at stake, but that's about the only thing that will be missing from last year's classic football game when bitter rivals Oklahoma and Nebraska collide again today. The Big Eight title will be on the line as it has been for the last two years when the two teams met and Nebraska won each time and there will be plenty of individual stars on display before 76,000 fans In Memorial Stadium and millions more watching on national television. Kickoff is 1:20 p.m., CST.

Last year both teams were unbeaten and ranked No. 1 and No. 2 when Jerry Tagge drove the Cornhuskcrs 74 yards in the final minutes for a 35-31 victory. Look-alikes San Francisco, Dallas in important contest Nolan it's been a high scoring game," says. The game features opposing quar- terbacks who were on the bench the last champions have yet to reach the mental peak they had last year "when we were driving for a championship we had never won." The game could turn into a wild offensive struggle.

Both teams have sagged defensively this year but the Cowboys own the top overall offense in the NFC while San Francisco is the No. 1 passing outfit But Nolan doubts it. "We've never played each other when time the teams met. Steve Spurrier is the quarterback for the 49ers while John Brodie recovers from an ankle sprain. Craig Morton has taken over as the Cowboy quarterback because of Roger Staubach's shoulder separation in August.

Dallas is a seven-point favorite. (AP Wirephoto) Long, o7 Vie DALLAS (AP) The offensive and defensive systems of Dallas and San Francisco are so similar the teams could switch uniforms in their National Football League game Thanksgiving Day and it would be hard to tell the difference. "If you want to impress your wife, just tell her that it's like looking in a mirror when these two teams play par-ticularly on defense," says Cowboy assistant Ermal Allen. "On offense both teams use multiple sets and on defense they don't vary from the 4-3 alignment." San Francisco Coach Dick Nolan was an assistant under Dallas Coach Tom Landry.

Nolan carries out Landry's theories to the letter. Nolan says "Tom must know me better than I know him" because the 49ers are 0-2-1 against the Cowboys with Nolan at the helm. The 49ers lost 14-3 and 17-10 to Dallas in the 1970 and 1971 National Conference playoffs. Today's game before a sellout crowd of 65,000 in Texas Stadium and a national television audience is of vital importance to both clubs. The 49ers can take the lead in the NFC West with a victory while the Cowboys can move to within a half game of NFC East leader Washington.

Dallas is 8-2 and the 49ers are 5-4-1. "It's always a big game when we get together," Nolan says. "There are no little ones." Besides his personal jinx against Landry, the 49ers will be going against the fact the Cowboys have never lost in Texas Stadium over a span of 10 regular season, three exhibition and one playoff games. Landry said the defending Super Bowl Black Hawks triumph, 5-2 Wells set to play games game to 36.7 for Oklahoma. 4 Dolphins slafed for 'late1 game Christmas Eve NEW YORK (AP) Miami's unbeatr en Dolphins will host a late afternoon playoff game on Christmas Eve, the last of four National Football League showdowns that weekend.

DETROIT (AP )- Aerial offense is expected to dominate Thursday as the New York Jets and Detroit Lions collide before a sellout Thanksgiving Day crowd at Tiger Stadium. The nationally televised contest is widely seen as a showdown between the big guns quarterbacks Joe Namath and Greg Landry. But the condition of the rest of the players may be the critical factor. Starting is 11 a.m., CST. Plagued by injuries suffered during their loss to the Miami Dolphins Sunday, the Jets are rated seven-point underdogs.

Among those with injuries are safety Gus Holloman, running back Emerson Boozer, safety Chris Farasopoulos, cor-nerback Steve Tanncn and defensive tackle John Elliott. "I never look at it as a confrontation between quarterbacks," said Landry. "It's our offense against their defense, and it's the same in his situation." The Lions have scored 210 points, while giving up 199. Both teams have 6-4 records and each must win to keep Super Bowl hopes alive. With four games to go, the Lions are tied for second with Minnesota, one game behind Green Bay in the Central Division of the National Football Conference.

Unbeaten Miami clinched the American Conference Eastern Division title last Sunday, but the Jets could still win a wild card slot in the conference playoffs. The game is the first regular season meeting ever between the two clubs. It Is also Namath's first crack at Detroit since the 1971 preseason contest in which he was injured, sidelining him for most of the year. Crisp temperatures with a chance of snow flurries are predicted for the game. one can get into basketball practice without a pass." Michigan basketball coach Johnny Orr said agents arc a problem.

"They're contacting my players all the time," lie said. "They (agents) write to them, but I don't think they've been around campus. The problem has primarily been confined to basketball, since the National Basketball Association and American Basketball Association are still in a war for talent and have signed players whose class has not been graduated. An agent usually looks for someone who he knows can make the grade in the pros immediately. Sophomore basketball standouts Lindsay llairston of MSU and Campy Russell of Michigan are examples of the caliber of players such agents seek to sign.

Orr said Russell, and star senior Henry Wilmorc, "have really been contacted a lot." DETROIT (AP) Are professional sports agents becoming a major problem on college campuses? The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has reported editorially in its monthly News the answer is yes. Some universities around the country lost undergraduate basketball players last year because the players signed agreements with agents and thus bd came ineligible for varsity competition, even before the players signed pro contracts. But what about Michigan's two biggest college athletic powers, Michigan and Michigan Stale? "I haven't seen any agents around here," said Burt Smith, MSU athletic director. "I've seen a lot of pro scouts, but I haven't seen any agents. I don't know if they're operating behind the scenes or what." 'Wc watch practices pretty close.
