Fairbury youths get church scholarships FAIRBURY (PNS)-Steve Conrod and Steve Crews, students at FairburyCropsey High School, have received scholarships to attend summer conof the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, presented by the Ministerial Association. The youths were selected by the coaching staff of the high school. They are sons of the Donald Conrods and Everett Crewses. Farmer City man gets year sentence CLINTON -Dennis R. Whitehouse, 26, Farmer City, has been sentenced to a year at the Illinois State Penal Farm near Vandalia after pleading guilty to a charge of drunken driving, De Witt County Court records showed Friday.

Charges of driving while his license was suspended and having no muffler on his car were dropped in plea bargaining. Whitehouse was released from probation on a July 8, 1972, charge of theft under $150. Central Illinois Deaths Central Mrs. Whitton EL PASO (PNS)-Mrs. Nellie M.

Whitton, 67, died at 11:10 p.m. Thursday at her home at 115 E. Fifth. Her funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Froelich Memorial Home, the Rev.

Warren Lynes officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be 7 to 9 tonight at the memorial home. She was born April 12, 1906 at Shelbyville, a daughter of Nathaniel H. and Myrtle Evans Byrd.

She was married to Bryan Poppwell in 1923 at Louisville, Ky. She was married to William W. Baize in 1930 0 in Woodford County. She was then married to Cecil Whitton Dec. 25, 1939 in Peoria.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Lillian Quickle, Peoria; Mrs. Evelyn Sebree, Pekin; three sons, Lawrence W. Baize and Cecil A. Whitton, both of El Paso; Jesse W.

Whitton, Gridley; three sisters, Mrs. Nora Schieber, Eureka; Mrs. Myrtle Miller, Merced, Mrs. Minnie Bluemenstock, Creve Coeur; a brother, Edman Byrd, Carlock; 13 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren. A brother preceded her in death.

She was a member of the Baptist Church. Mrs. Aline Brown Roy to graduate seniors on June 1 LE ROY (PNS) -The Le Roy High School baccalaureate service will be at 8 p.m. Sunday, May 27, at the high school auditorium. The Rev.

Jack Christian will present the sermon, "How to Live Well," and the high school chorus will sing. The Rev. Bruce Badger will read the scriptures. The processional and recessional will be played by Judy Oleson and Hal Hudson will have the invocation and benediction. The commencement program will be at 8 p.m.

on Friday, June 1, in the high school gymnasium. Dr. George Stimeling, superintendent of the Bloomington public schools, will give the address. The honors adresses will be given by Barb Lowe and Diana Oleson with Mike Hillard, president of the senior class, giving the class history. FORREST-Mrs.

Aline Brown, 72, a native of Fairbury, died Wednesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Marilyn Fleming of Phoenix, Ariz. Her funeral was Friday in Phoenix. She was born June 19, 1900, the daughter of Henry and Marguerite Mueller. She was married to Fred Brown of Pontiac in June, 1920.

He died Jan. 21, 1957. Survivors are her daughter, with whom she made her home; a son, Harold, Hammond, three sisters, Mrs. Anna Holmes, Pontiac; Mrs. Tillie Maier, Fairbury, and Mrs.

Louis Zimmerman, Forrest, and 10 grandchildren. A grandson and a brother preceded Mrs. Brown in death. Frank P. Theis Frank P.

Theis, 63, of 1205 N. Lee, died at 12:40 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Hospital. He had been ill for 10 days.

He retired two years ago as supervisor from the Gulf, Mobile Ohio Railroad. He had worked for the railroad for 43 years. Funeral services will be at 8:30 a.m. Monday at Main Memorial Home and at 9 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church.

Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with a prayer service at 8 p.m. Mr.

Theis was born July 28, 1909, in Bloomington, a son of Nicholas and Julianna Weber Theis. He married Ann Grimm in 1941, in Bloomington. She died in 1960. He then married Cathleen Wunderle on July 15, 1961, in Bloomington. Survivors include his wife; two brothers, Joseph, 805 N.

McLean, and Pete, 907 Hilltop Court; a sister, Mrs. Joanna Behnke, El Cajon, and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Theis graduated from St. Mary's School and was a member of Holy Trinity Church.

Hudson juniors win state award HUDSON (PNS) -The Hudson Junior Woman's Club has won one of six traveling trophies in the state, which are awarded by the Illinois Federation of Women's Clubs for work done on a community service project. The club was presented the trophy on Tuesday during the IFWC convention in Chicago. Mrs. Don Funk, club president accepted the award. Members of the club won the trophy for their work on the youth center in Hudson.

The club also won a state award for work which they have done during the past year for Project Concern. Lexington youth charged with threat to police Federal Bureau of Investigation agents and Lexington Police arrested a 19-yearold Lexington youth Friday for allegedly mailing a threatening letter to the Lexington Police Department. Being held in the federal section of the Springfield city jail Friday night was Gary D. Deerwester, Police said bond for the youth was $11,000 on charges of mailing threatening communications and possession of marijuana. A court appearance date had not been set.

Deerwester was arrested about noon Friday by FBI agents and Lexington police lieutenant Edward Girard at the Oasis Drive Inn. He was brought to the McLean county jail where he was later released to a U.S. Marshal. Two post bond on drug count Two of three Bloomington men arrested Friday on marijuana charges were released on $100 cash bond, McLean County sheriff's police said. County deputies arrested Sidney G.

Friday at Fairbury Hospital, Fairbury, where he had been admitted Thursday night. His funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday at the Reilly Funeral Home, Piper City, the Rev. Wilbert Burmeister officiating. Burial will be in Brenton Cemetery, Piper City.

Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. He was born Jan. 8, 1901 near Weston, a son of George and Christine Onken Boorngarden. He attended rural schools in the Weston and Fairbury area.

He was a retired farmer and a veteran of World War II. He never married. Surviving are two sisters, Miss Ethel Boomgarden and Mrs. Wilma Reising, both of Chatsworth; two brothers, William and John, with whom he made his home in rural Thawville. Bloomington-Normal Deaths Mrs.

Elma Jo Conte Mrs. Elma Jo Conte, 43, formerly of Bloomington, died Wednesday at her home in Streamwood. She was brought to the Beck Memorial Home. Man sentenced to penal farm -Thomas Richardson, 30, Lincoln, Friday was sentenced to six months at the Illinois State Penal Farm near Vandalia after pleading guilty to a charge of battery. In plea negotiations, the orginal charges of attempted rape, attempted deviate sexual assault and unlawful restraint were dismissed.

He was arrested in connection with a March 17 incident involving a 22-year-old woman. Chatsworth service for seniors Sunday CHATSWORTH (PNS) -Baccalaureate services for the 1973 graduating class of Chatsworth High School have been set for 8 p.m. Sunday in the high school gymnasium. El Paso woman's father dies in Tennessee EL PASO (PNS) -Fred I. Raby, 80, of Knoxville, father of Mrs. Oscar Grubb of El Paso, died Wednesday at his home. His funeral and burial were Friday at Knoxville. Surviving besides Mrs.

Grubb are his wife, a son, four other daughters, two brothers, two sisters, 13 grandchildren, 21 great- -grandchildren and four foster sons. 20 A Mrs. Letha List GIBSON CITY (PNS)-Mrs. Letha Fay List, 65, died at 9:15 p.m. Thursday at Gibson Community Hospital.

Her funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the United Methodist Church, the Rev. John Curtis officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Saybrook. Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Louise Craig, Elliott; Mrs. Jean Hudson, Saybrook; two sons, Stanley, Gridley; Robert, Elliott; 17 grandchildren; two brothers, Oakley Bane, Chicago; Elton Bane, Gibson City. Two sisters and five brothers preceded her in death. She was a lifelong resident of Gibson City, a member of the United Methodist Church and the Homemakers Extension Association.

William E. Culleton LINCOLN (PNS) William E. Culleton, 56, of 1318 Rutledge Drive, died at 5:40 a.m. Friday at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital. He was owner and operator of Tru-Air Heating and Air Conditioning in Lincoln.

His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Fricke Memorial Home, with the burial in Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. He was born in Lincoln, Oct.

9, 1916, a son of John E. and Bessie Hopp Culleton. He married Thelma Roach at Maplewood, Sept. 22, 1940. She died in September, 1972.

Surviving are a son, Richard Lincoln; two brothers, Paul, Lincoln; Edward, Sacramento, two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Zeiters, Normal; Mrs. Ruth Reiners, Emden. Lindsay, 67, a farmer and cattle feeder, died at his home at 7:45 a.m. Friday. He had returned home Thursday after being a patient for six weeks at Brokaw Hospital, Normal. His funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Musselman Funeral Home, the Rev.

H. Corson O'Brien officiating. Burial will be in Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8:30 tonight. He was born in Lexington Township June 8, 1905, a son of Calvin and Nettie Weir Lindsay.

He married Mary Elizabeth Schantz Jan, 13, 1937 in Lexington. Surviving are his wife; a son, James, Lexington, and a grandchild. He was a member of the Church of Christ, Uniting, and was an elder of the former Presbyterian Church. Memorials may be made to the heart fund. Elwood 'Pete' Adams CLINTON (PNS) Elwood M.

"Pete" Adams 59, a Clinton service station operator, was dead on arrival at Dr. John Warner Hospital at 1:10 a.m. Friday. He had been in ill health for several months. His funeral will be at 1:30 p.m.

Saturday at the Pullen-Boos Funeral Chapel, the Rev. J. C. Dove officiating. Burial will be in Maroa Cemetery.

Visitation will be today from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Masonic rites will be accorded Saturday. He was born Aug. 25, 1913, at Lane, a son of Odell and Virginia Ellen Scogin Adams. He married Eloise Kaiser who died in 1960.

He then married Helen Clifton Dec. 11, 1961, at Vandalia. Surviving are his wite; a son, Elwood Kenney; a brother, Paul, Clinton; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Bonnie Mandrell and Mrs. Cecelia Cox, both of Clinton; two grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren.

A brother also preceded him in death. He was a member of the Clinton Church of the Nazarene and several Masonic orders including the Bloomington Consistory. He operated the Deep Rock Oil service station in Clinton. Clinton fire Dewitt Clinton firemen were called to douse fire in building housing used tractor business of Eddie Cross about 2:30 p.m. Friday.
