THE PANTAGRAPH, Tuesday, Ort. 1. 1991 C7 MILESTONES AT WIT'S END Events set to honor centenarian A family dinner Saturday at First United Methodist Church, Normal, will honor Hazel A. Richmond of Lincoln Towers, Bloomington, for mrrmmM her 100th Jj I still hanging over the toilet bowr, he says he is going out to get tha medicine the doctor prescribed; "At 4, 1 hear the TV go Oprah. I hear him go Jo the front door to get the evening paper.

At 5, the TV is on again. He is watching Phil Donahue. Then it is quiet I think he is napping. At 6, it is getting dark. At 7, he is watching 'Current By this time I drag myself to the living room to ask if I am to take my medicine tomorrow or next week when I am well.

He tells me I am being sarcastic. "The load of clothes I washed in the morning is still in the washer. He has not eaten all day nor have I. I tell him he is about as worthless as teats on a boar hog. I am informed that if he wants to hear a lecture he will go buy a ticket and hear a professional.

"When I die, I will die alone, as he will never miss me and will be watching the news. By the time I start to smell, he will call 911." In sickness and in health is one of the better tests of a marriage. Actually, you don't know, what you've married until a husband serves a dinner of fried potatoes and onions stirred with a small paring knife to save on dishes or a wife who interrupts her husband while he is throwing up to ask, "Tell me what weight oil you use in my car and I won't bother you again." If he's good when you're sick let him stay By ERMA BOMBECK Some people are born to be pillow fluffers and soup pushers. Their touch can bring temperatures down to normal. They can run and fetch with the loyalty of a cocker spaniel.

To a sick person, it's like being in the hands of Allstate. Some people regard other people's illnesses as an annoying news bulletin during the Super Bowl, an unscheduled stop on an express train, a rainstorm during the ninth inning of their lives. It's not a gender thing. Sometimes men are great nurturers and sometimes women excel at it A reader from Michigan writes that her husband of 48 years is "very sweet kind and gentle, with a wonderful sense of humor. However, when I am sick, I see none of these qualities." She goes on to describe the day she came down with flu and was on her way to that big utility room in the sky.

She staggered to the bathroom around 2 p.m., hit the wall and knocked a large picture to the floor. She shouted to her husband for help. He finally poked his head into the bathroom and said, "You OK?" "I ask him to call the doctor," she writes.
