11 1 fC2 THE PANTAGRAPH, Friday, Oct. 25, 1991 Halloween activities sure to bring out ghosts, goblins Trick or Treat Hours Chart shows trick-or-treat hours in Central Illinois as designated by village boards, city councils and police departments. The hours are for Halloween Night, Oct 31 unless otherwise noted. By Pantagraph staff Ghosts and witches never go away on Halloween. Those tried-and-true get-ups will once again be popular among trick-or-treaters, but they'll see some other costumed beings as they make their rounds this year.

For example, costumes and masks depicting Persian Gulf hero Normal Schwarzkopf, movie hero "The Terminator" and Scarlett O'Hara might be seen going door-to-door or stop in at a party. Regardless of who they'll be, there will be plenty of places to see this Halloween's revelers. Police urge homeowners giving out treats to leave their porch lights on until trick-or-treating hours are over. Those hours vary among communities (see accompanying chart). But, a door-to-door search isn't the only way to celebrate Halloween.

Following is a rundown of organized Central Illinois Halloween doings. All are free unless otherwise noted. Lexington 5-8 p.m.; also on Oct 27 Lincoln p.m. Mackinaw 6-8 p.m. Mahomet p.m.

Tremont 6-9 p.m. Oct 30 Washington no specific hours, but ask that children finish by 8 p.m. Waynesvllle p.m. Mi p.m. Sunday in the fellowship room of Blackstone United Methodist Church.

Hayrack ride and wiener roast will precede the party, which will feature games. Chatsworth A Halloween party for the village's children preschool to fifth grade will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the American Legion hall. A junior high dance will follow at 8:30 p.m. The two events are sponsored by the Chatsworth Jun- ior Women's Club and the Chatsworth Community Children's Fund.

Cornell The village will provide hot dogs and drinks to be served in the south park at 7 p.m. while the Baptist Church will provide hot chocolate and treats at the church. Emden Village children will parade at 1:30 p.m. Thursday from the grade school through the business district, preceded by the junior high school band. Heyworth Halloween parade at 6:30 p.m.

Wednesday, beginning at the fire station on Main Street to the grade school gymnasium. There will be costume judging at 7 p.m. in the gymnasium. Groups will also be judged and awarded prizes. All participants will receive ribbons.

LeRoy The annual Kiwanis Club Halloween parade will be at 5 p.m., followed by costume judging, costume judging and parade will be. Trick or treat hours were also set at 6 to 9 p.m. on October 31. Lexington A Halloween party will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the high school gymnasium.

Those in costume should register at the door. Judging will begin soon after with prizes in five categories: preschool; K-l; grades 2-3; 4-6; and seventh grade to adult The grand prize is $25. During and after the judging treats will be given out Odell The Lions Club will sponsor a Halloween party for children at 7 p.m. at the swimming pool park. Clinton Clinton Business Association will sponsor a Halloween parade from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Oct 31 in the downtown square. Pontlac A Halloween parade and costume contest is scheduled for Saturday in downtown Pontiac. The event, known as "Spook Spectacular," is being sponsored by PROUD (Pontiac Redeveloping Our United Downtown) and will begin with costume judging at 10 a.m. in the old City Hall parking lot at 321 N. Main St There will be prizes for the most original costume, scariest costume and prettiest costume in three age groups children under age 4, 5- to 8-year olds and children ages 9 and up.

The parade will begin in the parking lot at 10:30 a.m. It will begin and end there, travel through the downtown area. Candy donated by downtown merchants will be distributed by volunteers following the parade and the Pontiac Wrestling Club will be selling food and drinks on the north side of the Livingston County Courthouse square. Wapella The annual community Halloween party and haunted house will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday in the Wapella High School gym.

Costume judging will be at 7 p.m. Cash prizes will be awarded with first prize, $15; second, $10; and third, $5 in each category. Categories are preschool through kindergarten; first through third; fourth through sixth; seventh through 12; and adult There will be a pumpkin contest for decorated or carved pumpkins and games for all ages, including pick-a-pumpkin, dart throwing, ring toss, and a pumpkin patch treasure hunt Refreshments will be served. A $1 donation will be charged to tour the haunted house with proceeds to go to the school's agriculture scholarship fund. The game fees are 25 cents each, or five tickets for $1.

The annual event is co-sponsored by the Wapella Volunteer Fire Department, the Wapella Fire Department Auxiliary, and the Wapella High School FFA Chapter. Atlanta p.m. Bloomington 5-8 p.m. Chatsworth 4-6 p.m. Chenoa p.m.

Cost is $3 for adults, $2 for children age 12 and younger. Tickets are available at the door. "Halloween Havoc" and haunted house for children, ages 5-12 will be 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Lawrence Irvin Neighborhood Center, 1612 W. Olive St, Bloom-ingtoa There will be games and costume judging sponsored by the center and Illinois State University's recreation programming planning class.

Westminster Village residents will decorate pumpkins for display from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday at the village, 2025 E. Lincoln St LIVE ON C0NKLIN PLAYERS Bloomington "Boo at the Zoo," from p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Miller Park Zoo in Bloomington; sponsored by Miller Park Zoological Society. Hayrides, ghost stories and walks, a "monster" symphony, clowns, scavenger hunt, games, pumpkin decorating, zoo walks will be ongoing.

Puppet shows will be at 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.; magic shows at 6 and 7 p.m. spooky stories for younger children at 7 p.m.; a costume parade and judging at 7:30 p.m.; and scary stories for older kids at 8 p.m. Costumes are encouraged, but not required. Admission is $1.25.

Hayrides will cost 50 cents. Halloween party, 9 a.m.-l p.m. Thursday at Miller Park Senior Center. Costume judging, games, and refreshments for adults 55 and older. Halloween open house, 6:30 to 8 p.m.
