Bloomington-Normal, III. Sept. 221977 I Morton board OK's intersection marking Pantagraph A-9 IS) iiW JQj )r3 rnl" uUuLD iJkuu (JJd MORTON (PNS)-Members of the Morton Village Board Monday nighl approved the recommendation of Sylvan Goffinett, village engineer, that crosswalks be marked at the intersec- tion of Main Street and Queenwood Road at the south edge of town. The board also authorized Goffinett to mark one or two left turn lanes on Queenwood in each lane. The baord gave approval for him to design a span-wire type traffic light at the intersection.

These lights would cost about $50,000, Goffinett said. In a traffic-related matter, the board authorized the reduction of the speed ,1 limit on Main Street between Detroit Avenue and Illinois 121. The speed would be lowered from 45 miles per hour to 40 miles per hour. In other business, the board: Received a proposal from the Os-sami Lake Homeowners Association at' North Morton Avenue requesting treatment of its sewage. The association made the request because the cost to upgrade the present system has risen from $45,000 to $75,000.

Residents of the association rejected the board's proposal to annex the 103 homes to the village. Mayor Chalmer Arnett appointed Jack Taylor to be chairman of a committee to meet with Richard Karnopp, utilities superintendent, who studied the situation. A report will be made to the board. Agreed to open bids Nov. 1 for property at Stanley and Ken streets in Schwarz Acres Subdivision.

Recognized 24 years of service to the village by Mrs. Fredonia Wenninger, treasurer. Approved the transfer of $30,000. to the general fund, $30,000 to the natural gas fund and $40,000 to the water fund. These funds were transferred from a certificate on deposit in the sales tax fund.

Announced a meeting Sept. 26 to review the interim sketch plan for the south side of the village. Board members will review the plans with Scruggs Hammond of Peoria, an engineering firm. The firm is designing development of that area.
