Saturday, Sunday matinees. carefree, nose-thumbing spirit of the 1977 box-office smash. There are lots of redneck vulgarisms, a plot that has something to do with a pregnant elephant, and Burt Reynolds and Sally Field trying to develop a "meaningful" relationship amid the cartoonery. Vi STIR CRAZY Richard Pryor, Gene Wilder team up as two Broadway hopefuls heading for Hollywood who get framed on a bank robbery charge and sent to prison. Top notch comedy.

FLASH GORDON Fast-paced space fantasy likely to be especially popular with children and those enjoying the campy aspects of the earlier "Flash Gordon" films. if Film Mi Movies Bloomingfon-Normal THE ARISTOCATS Castle Theater. Animated Walt Disney rerelease. (G). Matinees, evenings.

Clinton PRIVATE EYES Clintonia Theater. Tim Conway, Don Knotts. (PG). Friday through Wednesday evenings. Decatur ANY WHICH WAY YOU CAN Avon Theater.

Clint Eastwood. (PG). Evenings, Saturday and Sunday matinees. ORDINARY VeOPLE -Grim, talky, very emotional drama directed by Robert Redford in which a respectable, upper-middle class suburban Chicago family nearly disintegrates. The directorial style is better suited to theater or television, but the brilliant performances make this a must-see.

OH, GOD! BOOK II -George Burns returns as God in a clone of the 1977 original. As always, Burns is a marvelous master of his lines and timing. But the plot pushes the limits of believ-ability and the sassiness of the Burns-Denver combo is missing. Vi PRIVATE BENJAMIN -A comedy starring Goldie Hawn as a woman who seeks to develop her independence by joining the Army. She at first rejects the removal of her affluent dignity, creating a situation ripe for humor.

Unfortunately, the story is not as good as its actors and actresses, and is rather slowly executed. Vi SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT II Sequelmania hits a new low with this unsuccessful attempt to revive the 4 PREVIEW Chicago BEATLEMANIA Revue featuring John, Paul, George and Ringo look-alikes, 7 and 10:30 p.m. Jan. 2, 3, 4 and 7:30 p.m. Jan.

309-827-0303 for reservations. Chicago I'M GETTING MY ACT TOGETHER AND TAKING IT ON THE ROAD Musical and social comedy revue, THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK This film displays the same soaring imagination that made "Star Wars" fun. The same humans, among them Carrie Ford and Mark Hamill, and robots C-3P0 and R2-D2 are back; the dialogue is again flip, and the special effects superior. Despite all this, the film is something of a letdown, as is inevitable as a sequel. Furthermore, the ending is unsatisfying.

The filmmakers are saying "To be continued" too obviously. NINE TO FIVE Comedy with Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda and Dolly Parton playing office workers who band together to get justice. Fantasies about killing the boss come a little too close to reality, requiring some fast thinking on the women's part, -kick EVERY WHICH WAY YOU CAN Cast of "Every Which Way but Loose" reassembled for sequel. Fast-paced, follows recent Eastwood trend of portraying quiet but firm tough guy. Film Clips is made up of excerpts from Daily Pan-tagraph staff reviews.
