THE PANTAGRAPH, FRIDAY, NOV. 2, 1984 C3 DEATHS ACTIVITIES CENTRAL ILLINOIS Lucille Johnston BUCKLEY (PNS) Lucille Johnston, 79, of Kankakee Terrace Nursing Home, formerly of Buckley, died at 1:44 a.m. yesterday (Nov. 1, 1984) at St. Mary's Hospital, Kankakee.

A graveside service will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Woodlawn Cemetery, Buckley, the Rev. Keith Innskeep officiating. There will be no visitation. Redenius Funeral Home, Gilman, is in charge of arrangements.

She was born Aug. 25, 1905, in Buckley, a daughter of Cecil and C. Belle Dille Selleck. She married Richard P. Johnston Aug.

25, 1926, in Buckley. He died in 1957. Surviving are a daughter, Phyllis Luhrsen, Lake Iroquois; two sons, William, Cupertino, and John, Memphis, seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Donald Selleck, Mountain Home, and Charles Selleck, Ottawa, Ohio; and a sister, Joyce Ikins, Onarga. Three brothers and a grandson preceded her in death. She was a member of the Buckley Methodist Church, Buckley Order of the Eastern Star and was a graduate of Gallagher Business College, Kankakee.

Memorials may be made to Ford County Nursing Home. Dennis E. Lynd Jr. LEXINGTON Dennis E. Lynd 9, of 206 S.

West died at 9 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 31, 1984) at St. James Hospital, Pontiac. He had been ill and had resided at William W.

Fox Center, Dwight, the past seven years. His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Raleigh J. Harris Funeral Home, Pontiac, John Brewer of the Woodmar Church of Christ of Hammond, officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Cold Water, on Monday.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home. He was born April 27, 1975, at Pontiac, a son of Dennis E. and Vickie Cotham Lynd. Surviving are his parents, Lexington; a brother, Nathan, at home; maternal grandparents, Mr.

and Mrs. Marvin J. Cotham, Pontiac; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. H.A.

Lynds, San Bernardino, and maternal great-grandmother, Mary Neff, Buena Vista, Colo. Beulah E. Rife WATSEKA Beulah E. Rife, 69, of R.R. 2, died at 8:24 p.m.

Wednesday (Oct. 31, 1984) at Iroquois Memorial Hospital, Watseka. Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Redenius Funeral Home, Gilman, the Rev. Carl Anderson officiating.

Burial will be in Gilman Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to! 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. She was born Feb. 7, 1915, in Ashkum, a daughter of Henry and Margaret Walters Gingrich.

She married Elmer Rife Sept. 21, 1935, in Gilman. He survives. Also surviving are a son, Robert, Quapaw, a daughter, Donna Alder, Watseka; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren. She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, Gilman.

She farmed with her husband in rural Watseka. Memorials may be made to the Welles School, Watseka, or a charity of the donor's choice. Wilma Jane Miller MANSFIELD Wilma Jane Miller, 55, of R.R. 1, died at 3 p.m. Wednesday (Oct.

31, 1984) at her home. She had been under a doctor's care. Her funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Stensel-CalvertBelangee Funeral Home, Mansfield, the Rev. Cecil H.

Carroll officiating. Burial will be in Mansfield Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. She was born Dec. 11, 1928, in Weldon, a daughter of the Rev.

Levi and Leora Johnson Hart. She married Lawrence Miller Jan. 16, 1949, in Mahomet. He survives. Also surviving are five sons, L.

Allan, Champaign; Terry, LeRoy; Jerry, Clinton; Barry, Mansfield; and Cary, Mahomet; a brother, Wilbert Hart, Mahomet; two sisters, Zelma L. Brown, Sibley, and Mary Williams, Taylors, S.C.; and six grandchildren. Her parents, a son, a grandson, two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death. She had been employed as a nurses aide at Jackson Heights Nursing Home, Farmer City. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, Mansfield.

Robert R. Bryant TOWANDA Robert R. Bryant, 62, of Cottonwood, formerly of Towanda, died at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday (Oct. 31, 1984) at Whipple Veterans Administration Hospital, Prescott, where he had been a patient since Oct.

18. Prior to that he had been undergoing treatment at Tucson Veterans Hospital and the University of Arizona Cancer Research Center. His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at LDS Chapel, Cottonwood. Burial will be in Clarkdale Cemetery.

Mr. Bryant was born 9, 1922, a son of Cecil M. Bryant and Rae McKenzie Bryant Hammond. He married Doris Smith. She survives at Rt.

1, Box 288, Cottonwood, Ariz. 86326. Also surviving are a son, Robert Ray Bryant Cottonwood; four daughters, Gail Salinas, Dallas; and Marcie Bryant, Tracie DeVors and Tamie Store, all of Shreveport, two stepdaughters, Elaine Wells and Joan Clark, Tineland, Texas; and two sisters, Shirley Skhal, Anchorage, Alaska, and Wanda Rae Powell, Normal. Mr. Bryant was a life member of Cottonwood Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was service officer and past commander on both the post and district levels.

He also was active in Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion, Elks Club and Loyal Order of Moose. He was a veteran of World War II. Bransford B. Edwards CLINTON Bransford B. "Banty" Edwards, 68, of 412 Westhaven Drive, Centralia, formerly of Clinton, a retired Illinois Central Gulf Railroad employee, died at 8:50 a.m.

Wednesday (Oct. 31, 1984) at St. Mary's Hospital, Centralia. His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in St.

Mary's Church, Centralia, the Rev. Stephen Roudolphi officiating. A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Woodlawn Cemetery, Clinton. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m.

today at Garnier and Sons Funeral Home, Centralia, with a prayer service at 6 p.m. Mr. Edwards was born Sept. 3, 1916, at Patoka, a son of John T. and Hester Nichols Edwards.

He married Berniece Bourne June 2, 1940, at St. Charles, Mo. She survives. Other survivors include a son, David Normal; three daughters, Kathleen Edwards, Clinton, Carolyn Powers, Sullivan, and Sheila Herndon, Decatur; four sisters, Hazel Sears, Vandalia, Ruth Steele, Centralia, Rettie Gordon, Walnut Hill, and Minnie Shallabarger, Clinton; and seven grandchildren. Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

Mr. Edwards had lived in Clinton for many years before being transferred to Centralia in 1964. He was employed for 43 years as a welding instructor and supervisor with the ICG railroad. He served six years as secretary-treasurer of the Brotherhood of the Maintenance of Way Employees and five years as vice chairman of the union. He was a member of St.

Mary's Church and the Knights of Columbus. He also was a member of the United Commercial Travelers and was a past senior counselor. Kenneth Coulter PONTIAC Kenneth Coulter, 69, of 1116 S. Mill died at 1:30 p.m. yesterday (Nov.

1, 1984) at St. James Hospital. He was taken to Duffy Funeral Home, and will be taken to the Pulliam Funeral Home, Oblong. Minnie Booi DANFORTH (PNS) Minnie Booi, 90, of Holland Home, South Holland, and formerly of Danforth, died at 2:58 p.m. Wednesday (Oct.

31, 1984) at Ingalls Hospital, Harvey. Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Danforth Reformed Church, the Rev. Howard VanEgmond officiating. Burial will be in Danforth Reformed Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Redenius Funeral Home, Danforth, and one hour before the service at the church Saturday. She was born Jan. 12, 1894, in Danforth, a daughter of Timothy G. and Gertrude Oosterhoff Bensema.

She married Dan W. Booi Jan. 29, 1919, in Danforth. He died Feb. 5, 1962.

Surviving are a daughter, Anita Eiben, Bradley; a son, Duane, Chalfont, two sisters, Cevia Luppert, South Holland, and Gladys Zuidema, Wheaton; three brothers, Lester Bensema, Dalton; Thermal Bensema, Alsip; and Roy Bensema, Tinley Park; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Three sisters, three brothers and an infant son also preceded her in death. She was a member of the Danforth Reformed Church. Memorials may be made to the Holland Home or the church. Cletus C.

Klein METAMORA (PNS) Cletus C. Klein, 63, of 330 Leadley East Peoria, and formerly of Metamora, died at 9:20 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 31, 1984) at St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.

His funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Mason Funeral Home, Metamora, and at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Metamora. Father Ken Marchulones will officiate.

Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Metamora. Graveside military rites will be accorded by the Metamora American Legion. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home, where the rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. He was born May 30, 1921, in Metamora, a son of Michael and Sophia Knoblauch Klein.

He married Gertrude Geyier Oct. 24, 1945, in East Peoria. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Jack East Peoria, and Richard Manito; two granddaughters; two brothers, Harlan, Fall City, and Wesley, Washington; three sisters, Thelma Zoss, Metamora; Shirley Whittington, Metamora; and Waverly Thomas, Indianapolis, Ind. A sister preceded him in death.

He was a member of St. Monica's Catholic Church, East Peoria; the Illinois Valley Antique Car Club; and the Caterpillar Retirees Club. He was a World War II veteran and past commander of the Metamora American Legion. He retired from Caterpillar Tractor Co. in July 1984.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Joseph J. Ftacek STREATOR Joseph J. Ftacek, 64, of 104 15th Ottawa, and a native of Streator, died Tuesday (Oct. 30, 1984) at LaSalle County Nursing Home, Ottawa.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at St. Mary's Church, Naplate. Burial will be in Ottawa Avenue Cemetery, Ottawa, with military graveside services. Ottawa Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He was born March 20, 1920, in Streator, a son of Stephen and Mary Visocky Ftacek. Surviving are three brothers, Andrew and James, both of Ottawa; and Albert, in California; and three sisters, Catherine Douglas, Mary Ferrero and Eleanor Wirth, all in Arizona. Mr. Ftacek was an Army veteran of World War, a member of St. Mary's Church in Naplate and a member of the Ottawa Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Memorials may be made to the St. Mary's Building Fund or the American Cancer Society. Gertrude M. Daly "TOLUCA Gertrude M. Daly, 91, of the Apostolic Christian Home, Roanoke, and formerly of Toluca, died at 9 a.m.

yesterday (Nov. 1, 1984) at the home. Her funeral will be at 9:15 a.m. Monday at Mason Funeral Home, Metamora, and at 10 a.m. at St.

Joseph's Catholic Church, Roanoke, Father Knute Kinross officiating. Burial will be in St. Anne's Cemetery, Toluca. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where the rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.

She was born May 7, 1893, in LaRose, a daughter of William and Martha Wendland Daly. Surviving are a nephew, Jerry Staab, East Peoria, and a niece, Martha Stark, Oxford, Miss. Three sisters preceded her in death. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Roanoke.

Walter Pence GILMAN Walter Pence, 75, of Gilman, died at 6:15 last night (Nov. 1, 1984) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Hospital, Mattoon. He was taken to Redenius Funeral Home, Gilman. BLOOMINGTON NORMAL Richard R. Hinthorn Richard R.

Hinthorn, 21, of Tucson, formerly of Bloomington, died at 10:49 a.m. Tuesday (Oct. 30, 1984) in Tucson. Mr. Hinthorn, a serviceman for a sign company, fell from an elevated platform while changing lights.

His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Evergreen Mortuary Chapel, Tucson. Cremation rites will be accorded. Mr. Hinthorn was born Nov.

8, 1962, in Japan, a son of Robert and Judith Gray Hinthorn. Surviving are his parents; a brother, Gray Hinthorn, Tucson; and a sister, Trisha Galvez, Okinawa, Japan. Cameron Morgan The funeral for Cameron "Shelly" Brian Morgan, 34, of Bristol, England, and Brecon, Wales, formerly of Bloomington-Normal, who was found dead Oct. 14 in a wooded area near Bristol, will be in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Brecon.

Burial will be in Brecon. Mrs. Morgan had been missing since mid-June, when she disappeared after taking her children to a school bus, according to information gathered by the Associated Press in London. British police are conducting a murder investigation into her death. She was born Feb.

2, 1951, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Brian. Brian was an art professor at Illinois Wesleyan University, Bloomington, from 1952 until his retirement. A friend of the family said Mrs.

Morgan had lived in Wales for about nine years after marrying Nigel Morgan, a Welshman. The couple and their two children, Liam, 11, and Charlotte, 9, moved to Bristol this spring. Survivors include her husband and children in Brecon; her parents, Stillwater, and a sister, Holle Brian Nelson, Minneapolis. Mrs. Morgan was a graduate of University High School, Normal, where she received the Ruth Stroud award as outstanding student and was an exchange student to Japan.

She attended Webster College, Webster Groves, and the North Carolina School of the Arts, Winston-Salem, N.C., majoring in costume design in theater. Mrs. Morgan worked professionally in New York City, Philadelphia, and the Menotti Opera Festival in Spoleto, Italy. In England, she worked for the Liverpool Playhouse as costume designer, and later served as costumer for a number of productions in Wales and England. At the time of her death she was doing illustrations for a children's book in Bristol.

A memorial has been established in her memory at Illinois Wesleyan University School of Drama. Anna Ernest Anna Ernest, 92, of 203 Centennial Ave, Normal, died at 10:15 a.m. yesterday (Nov. 1, 1984) at Mennonite Hospital. Her funeral will be at 10 a.m.

Monday at Metzler Memorial Home, the Rev. Theodore Filandrinos and the Rev. Richard J. Hanson officiating. Entombment will be in Park Hill Masoleum.

Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the memorial home. She was born March 16, 1892, in Kirkillesse, Turkey, a daughter of Nickolas and Esther Deligiannis. She married James Ernest in Chicago. He died Oct.

18, 1963. Survivors include three sons, Nickolas and John, both of 203 Centennial Normal; and Ernie, Forest Park; three daughters, Mary Borton, Littleton, Esther Smith, Downingtown, and Carol Walker, Tyler, Texas; two brothers, Demetrius Deligiannis, Alexandria, Gida, Greece, and Aristides Deligiannis, Thessalonika, Greece; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. A daughter and a brother also preceded her in death. She was formerly a member of Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church, Westchester. Leatha L.

Milner Leatha L. Milner, 62, of 804 Eighth Hilltop Mobile Homes, Bloomington, a retired General Telephone Co. employee, died at 12:05 p.m. yesterday (Nov. 1, 1984) at her residence.

She had been under a doctor's care. Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Frank and Bright Funeral Home, Flora, the Rev. Kevin Able officiating. Burial will be-in Elmwood Cemetery, Flora.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, and from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the Flora funeral home. Miss Milner was born Nov. 26, 1921, in Cisne, a daughter of Fred and Clara Murphy Milner.

Survivors include a sister, Kathryn Charlton, Salem, and a brother, Fred Ewel Milner, Flora. Two brothers and a sister preceded her in death. She was a member of Eastview Christian Church, Bloomington, and General Telephone's Pioneer Association. She had worked for General Telephone for 40 years, retiring in 1982. When she retired she was in operator services management.

Memorials may be made to the Eastview Christian Church building fund or the American Cancer Society. Stanford man's brother, 70, dies STANFORD Oliver Hinkle, 70, of 58 Tamaqua Audenried, brother of a Stanford man, died Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 31, 1984) at his home after a long illness. His private funeral will be Saturday at Rosenstock Funeral Home, Hazelton, Lt. Paul Cain of the Salvation Army officiating.

Burial will be in Mount Laurel Memorial Gardens, rural Hazelton. There will be no visitation. Survivors include a brother, Herbert Hinkle, Stanford. Mr. Hinkle was a retired machine and drill press operator in Hazelton.

Roberts man's mother dies at 81 ROBERTS Ruth Rhinehart, 81, of Springdale, mother of Dean W. Rhinehart of Roberts, died at 7:30 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 28, 1984) at Springdale. Her funeral and burial were Wednesday in Springdale.

She was born Nov. 8, 1902, in Arkansas, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Shamblin. She married Oliver Rhinehart, who preceded her in death.

In addition to her son, survivors include a granddaughter, Mrs. Richard Longmire, Gibson City. Rural Cornell fire destroys barn CORNELL A barn containing 3,000 bales of hay was destroyed by a fire believed to have been started by lightning early yesterday in rural Sunbury Township northeast of Cornell. William Skonetski, a Cornell Fire Department captain, said he lives about a mile away from the barn, owned by Norman Foss, rural Blackstone. He spotted the blaze about 7:35 a.m.

and called other firefighters. The barn was fully involved when they arrived within 10 minutes, he said, and firefighters tried mainly to contain the blaze with the assistance of firefighters from the Pontiac, Odell and Ransom departments. The hay and some small farm machinery inside were owned by Dave Stipp, rural Blackstone, Skonetski said. He did not have a damage estimate for the older wooden-frame barn or its contents. Winning costume list expanded The following children were omitted from a list of Halloween costume winners that appeared in yesterday's Pantagraph.

Besides these winners, Nathan Wenger, Southgate Estates, Bloomington, was a winner in the scariest category for preschoolers at Eastland and Amber Hany, Normal, was a winner in the most comical category at a costume judging contest at College Hills Mall, Normal. Their names were misspelled in yesterday's edition.

Supper to benefit ambulance service HEYWORTH A benefit spaghetti supper will be served from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Heyworth High School cafeteria, with proceeds to pay for the new ambulance purchased for the Heyworth Ambulance Service. Ambulance crews will prepare and serve spaghetti, coleslaw, homemade pies and cakes and beverages. Tickets are available from crew members or at the door. The service is operated by volunteers and financed by donations.

About 20 people staff the 10-yearo. ambulance service. Burris to speak at Hoffmann rally KANKAKEE Illinois Comptroller Roland Burris will be the keynote speaker at a fund-raiser for Democratic congressional John Hoffmann at 6 p.m. today at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 187 S. Indiana Kankakee.

Hoffman will face incumbent Republican Edward Madigan in Tuesday's election. The candidates are seeking a seat from the 15th District, which includes all or parts of 13 Central Illinois counties. Swimming trip planned The Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring a swimming trip to Bolingbrook for children in grades 1-6 on Veterans Day, Nov. 12. The trip will leave at 10 a.m.

from Bloomington City Hall and return at 6 p.m. Participants must be able to swim 25 yards without stopping. The trip is planned to the only indoor wave-action pool in the state, where waves similar to the ocean are generated by the pool's pumping system. The cost for the trip is $13. Registration is limited and will be accepted at the Parks and Recreation office, 322 S.

Main St. Open gym program The Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring an open gym program for persons 18 years of age and older from 7 to 9 p.m. beginning Nov. 6 through March 28 at two Bloomington grade schools. Sheridan School, 1403 W.

Walnut will be open Tuesday evenings for basketball and Thursday evenings for volleyball. Washington School, 1201 E. Washington will be open Wednesday evenings for basketball. Admission is $1 per night, or $10 for a season pass. The program will not be held on school holidays.

No tennis court lights The Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department has announced that effective Nov. 1, the tennis court lights at Bloomington High School, O'Neil Park and Stevenson will no longer be activated in the evenings. Nets will remain on a portion of these courts for daytime play during the winter months. The lights will. be reactivated in April.

Photography classes Photography classes will be offered from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 3, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Nov. 4 and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 5 at the Association of Commerce and Industry Building, 210 S.

East Bloomington, sponsored by Illinois Local Governmental Law Enforcement Officers Training Board and Region 12 Law and Justice Commission. U.S. Singletons The Peoria Chapter of United States Singletons will have its monthly dinner meeting at Yesterday's Restaurant, 2205 S.W. Washington Peoria, beginning with a cash bar at 6 p.m.

Nov. 2. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m. Merle Giles, vice president of Sheridan Bank, will speak on the American Cancer Society. The group also meets from 5 to 7 p.m.

Drive for Goodwill set in Hartsburg HARTSBURG Brownie Troop 316 and Junior Girl Scout Troop 553 will collect donations for Goodwill from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Goodwill is in need of small electrical appliances, housewares, furniture, lamps, bedspreads, televisions sets, linens, draperies and clothing. Residents of Hartsburg and Emden should bag or box items marked for Goodwill and leave them in front of residences before 9 a.m. Saturday. Rural residents may leave donations at the town hall at Hartsburg or the Community House in Emden. For late item pickup, residents should call 1-800-252-8938.
