(AP) A reserve, John Wiley, put Minnesota ahead to stay midway in the second half and then sank a clinching free throw with 21 seconds left as the Gophers defeated defending NCAA champion Louisville, 62-56, Monday night. Louisville had taken only its second lead of the game, 39-38, with 12 minutes left on an 18-foot jumper by Pancho Wright. Fifty-two seconds later, Wiley scored on a layup to push the visiting Big 10 team back on top, 40-39, a lead they never relinquished.

Wiley appeared to be a candidate for goat honors for a brief moment late in the game when he missed the front end of a bonus free throw situation and Louisville scored to pull within three at 59-56 with 21 seconds left. However, Wiley was fouled on the inbounds play and this time converted one of his two free throws to seal Illinois State's Hank Cornley (52), a Monday night for this rebound during My rebound freshman forward, beat Pepperdine's ISU's basketball victory, while Red-' Scott McCollum at Horton Field House bird Anthony Jones (43) watched. Braksick was the only Falcon in double figures. Scott Reese added eight points for the winners. With the win, Flanagan upped its record to 9-2 on the season, while Seneca dropped to 1-8.

WOODLAND came from behind to defeat Wenona, 54-50. Randy Delheimer led the winners with 18 points. Wenonas' Troy Nass led all scorers with 20 points while teammate Bob Gorpsek added 13.
