Pantagraph D-15. Bloomington-Normal, Ill. March 11, 1979 Chance to help PEORIA-The 21st annual Mennonite Relief Sale Saturday at Exposition' Gardens was not a haven for weekend bargain hunters. Strawberry cheesecake was going for as high as $60 and $2.50 gold pieces were a steal at $350. But people interested in contributing a worthy cause had plenty of opportunities at the gigantic auction, with proceeds going to the poor in the U.S.

and 60 other nations. In addition to bidding for quilts dollhouses ($80) and miniature carved wagons and horses customers selected from a wide range of food and baked goods. According to Don Roth, coorganizer of the sale, 15,000 people attending devoured 6,000 pancakes. The sale is one of 17 planned this year in the U.S. and Canada.

Last year, the sales raised more than $1.3 million nationwide. Besides auctioneering and foods, the sale offered glass blowing and pottery Fragile art to making the flame displays. One son, two brothers and two sisters receded him in death. Mr.

Kath was a retired farmer and vorked in the trucking business from 928. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Danvers, and McLean County 'arm Bureau. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Radio Fund, in care of WJBC radio station, Bloomingon; Lutheran Ralio Hour, in care of KFUO radio station, St. Louis, or the Carlock CommuniBuilding Fund. John Coen MAROA (PNS) -The funeral of John Fred Coen 58, who died Friday, will be at 2 :30 p.m.

Monday at Maroa United Methodist Church. The Rev. John O. McIntyre will oficiate. Burial will be in Maroa Cemeery.

Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today at Dawson and Wikoff Funeral Home, Maroa, and one hour before the service. Memorials may be made to the Heart und or Illinois Lions Foundation. He was a veteran of World War II. Gladys Myers MORTON (PNS)-Gladys M.

Edgar Leonard WILLIMASVILLE -J. Edgar Leonard, 78, of Williamsville, died at 9:55 a.m. Friday at Florida Hospital, at Orlando, Fla. Private family services will be Tuesday with burial in Harristown Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m.

Monday at and Barry Funeral Home. Mr. Leonard was born Feb. 25, 1901, at Decatur, a son James G. and Mary Moore Leonard.

He married Carmen Wells on June 21, 1924, at Robinson. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Ted, Wilmington, Jack, Williamsville; two daughters, Mary Howard, Armington; Emily Guettler, Ann Arbor, a brother, Lawrence, Decatur; a sister, Myrtle Cropper of Iowa City, Iowa; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son. He was manager of Lincoln Land Farms at Sherman and was a member of Harristown Christian Church.

He served for 24 years as director of U.S. Trotting Association, and in 1953 he was ranked No. 1 in U.S. Universal Drivers Ratings. Memorials may be made to Williamsville Rescue Squad or Heart Fund.

Cora Hashman LINCOLN (PNS) -The funeral of Cora Ellen Hashman, 58, of Lincoln, who died Friday, will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Holland and Barry Funeral Home with Rev. Ed Cunningham officiating. Burial will be in Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

He was born Nov. 7, 1898, in Logan County, a son of John and Minnie Roetker Bauer. He married Louise Dahmm April 15, 1920, at Lincoln. She survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Roma Ballinger, rural Atlanta; three brothers, John, Riverton; William, rural Lincoln; and Dick, Lincoln; four grandchildren and four great -grandchildren.

He was preceded in one brother. He was a member of Immanual Lutheran Church, the church council, Brotherhood of Lutheran Church, Lincoln Kiwanis Club, New Holland School Board and Logan County Farm Bureau and was a past president of the Logan County Farm Bureau Board. He also was a member of the Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital Board. He was a director 18 years of the Sangamon Valley Farm Bureau Farm Management Service. Memorials may be made to Immanual Lutheran Church.

Christine Winkler METAMORA (PNS) -Christine Winkler, R.R. 4, died at 1:45 p.m. Saturday at Methodist Medical Center, Peoria. Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Mason Funeral Home, with burial in Oakwood Cemetery.

There will be no visitation. She was born in Metamora Township, 'a daughter of Christian and Catherine Schertz Winkler. Surviving are two brothers, Elmer, Moberly, and Sidney, Chenoa. One brother preceded her in death. She was a member of Metamora Mennonite Church and was a lifelong Metamora area resident.

Sol Guth GRIDLEY (PNS) -The funeral of Sol E. Guth, 83, who died Friday, will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Meadows Mennonite Church, Meadows. The Revs. Leo Miller and Lotus Troyer will officiate, with burial in Glendale Cemetery, Washington.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Froelich Memorial Home and an hour before the funeral at the church. He was born Feb. 2, 1896, at Washington, a son of Joseph and Magdalena Waggner Guth. He married Elsie Heiple Jan.

Surviving are a daughter, Arlene Poppe, Chenoa; three sons, Robert, Evansville, Duane, Chenoa; and Emerson, Normal; a brother, Raymond, Washington; two sisters, Esther Guth, Washington, and Pearl Litwiller, LeRoy; 1 13 grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren. Three brothers and a sister preceded him in death. He was a member of Meadows Mennonite Church, McLean County Farm Bureau and Farmers Union.

Gridley board begins budget planning GRIDLEY (PNS) -The Gridley School Board Unit 10 Friday amended its Jan. 11, 1973, minutes to grant Joan K. Comincioli a retroactive maternity leave from fourth-grade teaching duties. She did not teach from Jan.

15, 1973, to Feb. 19, 1973. The board authorized Superintendent Don Sherrill to prepare a tentative budget for the fiscal year to begin July 1. The firm Henning, Strouse, Jordan and Sulaski of Bloomington was hired to audit school books. The board hired Michele M.

Costello as an elementary school teacher for the 1979-80 school year. In other action, the board: -Approved a May 22 senior trip to Six Flags. -Changed the board holiday from April 12 to April 16. Russell Elder MORTON (PNS)-The funeral of Russell F. Elder, 66, who died Friday, will be at 11 a.m.

Tuesday at Kurrus Funeral Home, Belleville. The Rev. Dean Cripe will officiate, with burial in Valhalla Burial Park, Belleville. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Ludwig Mortuary and from 2 to 9 p.m.

Monday at Kurrus Funeral Home. He was born Aug. 30, 1912, at Belleville, a son of Thomas and Irene Mayfield Elder. He married Margaret Kelley Feb. 4, 1968, at Maryville.

She survives. Also surviving are three sons, Robert, Zion; James 'Harrow, Belleville; and Michael O'Harrow, Winamac, three daughters, Mary Ann Czekenski, Fairview Heights; Sue Anderson, Washington Park; and Kay Gonstal, Trivoli; and 16 grandchildren. He was an independent carpenter, retiring in 1978, and a member of Morton Christian Church, Morton Order of the Eastern Star and Morton Masonic Lodge. Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association. McLean Scouts slated for honor court MCLEAN (PNS)-McLean Boy and Cub Scouts will meet for a court of honor Monday.

John Hoense, a Prairie Trails Boy Scout District executive, will speak on "Sustaining Membership Enrollment." Resident advocate hired at Fox center DWIGHT-Genia C. Crane, Pontiac, has been named resident advocate for Fox Developmental Center in Dwight.

The appointment was made by Illinois Developmental Disabilities Advocacy Authority, a not-for-profit organization. Ms. Crane began duties Friday. She will work with residents and their families to provide information and assistance. GIBSON CITY -The funeral of the Rev.

Dean McGrew, 89, of Gibson City who died Friday morning, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Community Christian Church. He was Christian minister for 51 years, retiring from Gibson Community Christian Church in 1977, where he had been pastor for 17 years. He also served in Fisher; Champaign; Rialto, Calif; Mesa, and the Old Bedford Church near Blandenville. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m.

He married Flora Stephens at Carlock. She preceded him in death. He married Margaret E. Armstrong on Jan 15, 1939, at Fisher. She survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Floy Parett, La Crescenta, two sons, Derrell, Topeka, Lance, Elliott; one brother, Brint, Gibson City; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded i in death by a sister and four brothers. Memorials may be made to Community Christian Church or to Barton W. Stone Christian Home. Celesta Zehr MEADOWS (PNS)-Celesta Zehr, 85, died at 5:30 p.m.

Saturday at Meadows Mennonite Home. Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Meadows Mennonite Church, the Revs. Leo Miller and Lotus Troyer officiating. Burial will be in Lexington Cemetery, Lexington.

Visitation will be an hour before the funeral at the church. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa, is in charge of arrangements. She was born July 10, 1893, at Lexington, a daughter of Christian and Mary Unzicker Zehr. Surviving are two nieces, Myrtle Whitmar, Chenoa, and Mary Rosenberger, Lexington. Three sisters preceded her in death.
