Main Bloomington. Costumes are recommended, prizes will be awarded and new members are welcome.

Children's Discovery Museum The museum will resume its Thursday Family Fun Nights with The end of October is the traditional time for witches and goblins and things that go bump in the night. With that in mind, Bloomington-Normal will have plenty of opportunities for children and adults alike to celebrate Halloween. Bloomington The Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department's Halloween Happening will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Miller Park and the Lincoln Leisure Center.

Activities will include games, face painting, clowns, a costume contest, magic shows and scary stories. A hayrack ride will run continuously from Lincoln Leisure Center to the north lawn of Miller Park Pavilion. Both locations will provide a variety of activities for visitors. Normal The Normal Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor the Haunted Trail for a second weekend Friday and Saturday. The trail will run from Normal City Hall to the City Hall Annex from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Participants will begin at City Hall, where children can collect Halloween treats. Small groups will then be sent across Vernon Avenue, where they will be met by lights, sound effects By Pantagraph staff Police and emergency response agencies agree on a lot of things when it comes to Halloween trick or treating. Here's a list: Plan the route children will take and have an adult tag along.

Limit the route to an area the children know well. Don't let children go anywhere alone. They always should travel in pairs or larger groups. Make sure children wear light-colored or reflective-type clothing so they're more visible at night. Also have them wear tennis shoes that provide good traction.

Apply facial paint rather than masks or other material that cover children's eyes. If you are driving during trick-or-treat hours, be aware of more children being outside. Drive slowly through neighborhoods and watch for children in the Street and on medians; also exit driveways carefully. ONLY let children go to homes where porch lights are on. To prepare for the kids, make sure porches are clear.

Make sure trick or treaters cross the street at comers and don't try to hide or dodge between parked cars. Use sidewalks; if there are no sidewalks, tell kids to use the left side of the street so they are facing oncom 6.M mi ing cars. Have at least one child or the adult accompanying the group carry a flashlight. Instruct children that they are not to eat anything until they get home and then inspect the treats; don't allow anyone to eat candy if the package has been 17 A. simultaneously and this year will feature TV show themes.

Both concerts are free to the public, but donations will be accepted. Both schools will also hold pumpkin carving contests, with entries accepted one hour before the show. Scotchwood Health Care Center Trick or treating will be offered from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday at the facility, 1925 S. Main Bloomington.

YWCA of McLean County The YWCA, 1201 N. Hershey Road, Bloomington, will host a Haunting Halloween Overnight from 7 p.m. Friday until 9 a.m. Saturday for children ages 5 to 12. Children will spend the night and participate in a costume party, games, crafts, swimming and snacks.

Other celebrations throughout McLean County include: Danvers The Danvers Lions Club will host a costume-judging contest in the Danvers Elementary School gymnasium at 6:30 p.m. Halloween. Participating mall stores will post bright orange signs in their entrances. A costume cop will travel the mall awarding prizes for best costumes, while the Bloomington Police Department will offer coloring books. McLean County Humane Society The McLean County Humane Society's annual Halloween Bake Sale will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Halloween inside Kmart in Bloomington.

All proceeds will go to support the various programs of the Humane Society, including veterinarian care and shelter for neglected animals. McLean County Arts Center The arts center will host its second annual Halloween costume party fund-raiser from 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday. Food, drinks, and entertainment will be offered. Admission to the party is $10 or $5 for students with current college IDs.
