THE PANTAGRAPH Tuesday, August 14, 2001 A5 OBITUARIES Samuel Anliker STRAWN Samuel Paul Anlik- er, 96, of 111 E. Lincoln, Madison, formerly of Strawn, died Saturday (Aug. 11, 2001) at Madison Manor Nursing Home. His funeral will be at 10 a.m. today at Apostolic Christian Church, Lamont, Kan.

Burial will be in Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery, Lamont. Wilson Funeral Home, Madison, is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Apostolic Christian Church; Madison Manor Nursing Home; or Hand In Hand Hospice. Contributions can be sent in care of Wilson Funeral Home, P.O. Mr. Anliker was born Feb. 19, 1905, in Strawn, a son of Ernst and Emma Leman Anliker. He married Kathryn L. Gruber on March 2, 1927, in Emporia, Kan.

She died March 12, 1973. He married Clara Banwart on Oct. 27, 1974, in West Bend, Iowa. She survives. Other survivors include one son, Glen (Lorean) Anliker, Madison; one daughter, lone (Donald) Broquard, Fairbury; one brother, Elmer Anliker, Francesville, one sister, Dorothy Schambach, Elgin; 11 grandchildren; 32 greatgrandchildren; and one greatgreat-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Samuel Jr. and five brothers; four sisters; and one grandson. Mildred A. Buchanan STREATOR Mildred A. "Millie" Buchanan, 75, of 124 S.

Everett Streator, died at 10:20 a.m. Saturday (Aug. 11, 2001) at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, Peoria. Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hagi Funeral Home, Streator, the Rev.

John Crist officiating. Burial will be in Allen Cemetery, Ransom. Visitation will be for one hour before the service. Memorials may be made to American Red Cross. Mrs.

Buchanan was born Aug. 19, 1925, in Streator, the daughter of Melvin R. and Rachel E. Gaff Smith. She married Sam Buchanan on July 15, 1968, in Rushville.

He died Jan. 9, 1988. Survivors include a son, Malcom "Butch" Somsag, Streator; a daughter- Doris Chapman, Danville; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Her parents preceded her in death. Louise Burgess McLEAN Louise Jane Burgess, 94, of Port Richey, formerly of McLean, died May 6, 2001, at Regional Medical Center, Bayonet Point, Fla.

There was no funeral. Thomas B. Funeral Home, New Port Richey, was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Burgess was born Feb.

20, 1907, in McLean, a daughter of Elon and Eva Archer Crain. She married Charles Burgess. He died in 1971. Survivors include a son, Charles Crain Burgess, Port Richey. Maxine Green ELLSWORTH Maxine Maxine Green Frances Green, 82, formerly of Bloomington and Ellsworth, died at 11:35 p.m.

Sunday (Aug. 12, 2001) at LeRoy Manor, LeRoy. Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Calvert- -Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, LeRoy, Pastor Bill Vandervoort officiating. Burial will be in Dawson Cemetery, Ellsworth.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today and for one hour before the service Wednesday, both at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 401 Pine Normal, IL 61761. Mrs. Green was born April 29, 1919, at Maroa, a daughter of Chester and Linnie Gardner Riley.

She married Ernest Green on Nov. 26, 1938, at Rockville, Ind. He died Sept. 8, 1976. Survivors include two sons, Ernest "Butch" (Lilly) Green Ellsworth; and Jack (Linda) Green, Eureka; one daughter, Carolyn Forbes, Jacksonville, three brothers, Leon C.

(Louise) Riley, Bishop, Chester D. (Dorothy) Riley Glendale, and Richard (Louise) Riley, Decatur; two sisters, Betty (Keith) Kirkwood, Pueblo, and Janice (Dave) Bales, Cerro Gordo; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great -grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her one son, Phillip L. Green; parents; brothers, Myrle Riley and and two Ronnie Riley. She was a member of the Ellsworth American Legion Auxiliary, Ellsworth, and Saybrook Christian Church, Saybrook.

She was a very loving mother and grandmother, and there will remain a big void in all the lives she touched. Shirley A. Harrison STREATOR Shirley A. Harrison, 78, of 135 W. First Streator, died at 3:45 a.m.

Monday (Aug. 13, 2001) at St. Mary's Hospital, Streator. Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Park United Presbyterian Church, Streator, the Rev.

Laura Reason officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Streator. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Winterrowd I Funeral Home, Streator. She was born June 2, 1923, at Brantford, Ontario, Canada, a daughter of Percy and Marie Summerhays.

She married Frank J. Harrison on Dec. 30, 1950. He survives. Also surviving are her children, Ellen (Udo Greinacher) Harrison, Cincinnati; Paul (Karen) Harrison, Russellville, Janice (Sean) Tienhaara, Indianapolis; and Mark Harrison, Chicago; one sister, Muriel Kite, London, Ontario, Canada; and seven grandchildren.

Her parents preceded her in death. Mary Jean Luebeck PIPER CITY Mary Jean Weakman Luebeck, 72, of Plainfield, a Piper City native, died Sunday (Aug. 12, 2001) at Hinsdale, following a short illness. Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Westchester Community Church, Westchester.

Inurnment will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today at Hursen Funeral Home, Hillside, and at the church for one-half hour before the service. She was born May 18, 1929, near Piper City, a daughter of Alex and Martha Carr Weakman. She married Henry T.

Luebeck on July 4, 1953, in Piper City. He survives. Also surviving are a son, Mark (Rosemary) Luebeck, Burbank; a daughter, Susan (David) Swierzynski, Lombard; and two grandchildren. Her parents preceded her in death. Mildred McQuiggin GIBSON CITY Mildred Eliza- beth McQuiggin, 89, of Gibson City died at.

2:30 p.m. Monday (Aug. 13, 2001) at Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana. Her funeral will be private. There will be no visitation.

1, 1911, at St. Ignace, a daughter of Samuel and Naomi IsCornbough McLean. She married Robert Frank McQuiggin on Feb. 14, 1938, at Bloomington. He died April 23, 1992.

Survivors include, two daughters, Nina Sue Moore and Patricia E. (Fred Otton, both of Urbana; three granddaughters; and three great Three brothers and two sisters preceded her in death. Virgil Oltman MINONK Virgil Ray Virgil Oltman Oltman, 80, of 306 N. Walnut Minonk, died at 2:15 a.m. Monday (Aug.

13, 2001) at BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal. His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Minonk, the Rev. Donald Henderson officiating.

Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Streator, with Virgil military rites by Oltman Minonk Ameri- can Legion Post 142. Visitation will be for one hour before the service at the church. Patrick's Catholic Church, Minonk. Mr. Oltman was born Aug. 13, 1921, in Benson, a son of John and Pearl Newlon Oltman. He married Bernadette Bakalar April 16, 1947, in Streator.

She survives. Other survivors include daughter Lynn Ann (Alan) Aanerud, Mesquite, Texas; daughter Kathleen Leigh (Kevin) Cunningham, Fox River Grove; daughter Jana M. Kiefer, Bloomington; son Gregory Ray (Candy) Oltman, Barrington; daughter Jerilyn K. Oltman, Edenton, N.C.; son Michael Patrick Oltman, Minonk; sister Patricia Dalziel, New Lenox; sister Fran (Lester) Hupprich, Morton; sisterin-law Carolyn Oltman, South Holland; sister-in-law Jan Oltman, Coral Gables, sister-in-law Ruth Oltman, Crete; sister Rachel Seggerman, Chenoa; and 13 grandchildren. His parents and three brothers, Bob Oltman, Granville Oltman and James Oltman, preceded him in death.

He farmed west of Minonk for 36 years. He retired in 1983 and moved to Minonk the following year. He was a crop and weather reporter for Doanes Agriculture Association for more than 20 years. He was a veteran of World War II, serving 39 months Army Air Force; 24 months in China; and two months behind enemy lines in Burma. He served two terms on Tall Oaks Country Club board of directors.

He also was elected to two terms on the Minonk-Dana-Rutland school board, serving as president his last year. He served two years on the Mackinaw Valley Special Education board of directors. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Minonk, where he served on the church board and various committees during the remodeling of the church in 1963. He was Third Degree member of Knights of Columbus in Minonk and Fourth Degree member of the Bloomington Council.

He was a member of American Legion Post 142 in Minonk. Barbara E. Reed GIBSON CITY The funeral of Barbara E. Reed, 63, of Marion, formerly of Gibson City, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lamb Funeral Home, Gibson City.

The Rev. John Davenport will officiate. Burial will be in Drummer Township Cemetery, Gibson City. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today.

She died at 4:30 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 11, 2001) at Memorial Hospital, Carbondale. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. She was born Sept.

20, 1937, at Fisher, a daughter of Arthur V. and Ruby L. Robbins Watterson. She married Dwayne Reed on Oct. 23, 1955, at Paxton.

He survives. One sister and her grandparents preceded her in death. Henry O. Simons STREATOR Henry 0. Simons, 81, R.R. 1, Streator, died at 1 p.m.

Saturday (Aug. 11, 2001) at St. Mary's Hospital, Streator. His funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Hagi Funeral Home, Streator, the Rev.

15, 1919, in rural Pontiac, the son of William and Anna Wolf Simons. He married Rose June Mosell on Jan. 1, 1947. She survives. Rose Vierling MORTON Rose Lydia Vierling, 85, of 221 N. Indiana Morton, died at 4:30 p.m. Sunday (Aug. 12, 2001) at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Her funeral will be at 10 a.m.

Wednesday at Morton Apostolic Christian Church, with church ministers officiating. Burial will be in Morton Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Ludwig Mortuary, Morton, and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

2, 1916, in Deer Creek, to Christian and Rosa Messer Baer. She married Carl A. Vierling on June 20, 1940, in Peoria. He died July 2, 1987. Surviving are two sons, Weldon Vierling and Darrell (Linda) Vierling, both of Morton; two daughters, Gloria (Howard) Leman, Morton; and Carla (Greg) Rassi, Darien; one brother, Elmer (Shirlee) Baer, Morton; three sisters, Anna Hartter, Martha (Don) Vance and Minnie Glueck, all of Morton; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great -grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Jeanette; five brothers; and one sister. Robert Wright ODELL Robert Wakefield Wright, 70, of Odell died at 2:05 a.m. Monday (Aug. 13, 2001) at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Blooming- ton.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Duffy Funeral Home, Odell, Pastor William Shields officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Odell. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society. Mr. Wright was born May 28, 1931, in Joliet, a son of Charles and Mary Reed Wright. He married Mildred Knupp on May 1, 1954, in Morris. She survives.

Other survivors include his mother, of Pontiac; one son, Robert (Lori) Wright, Pontiac; four daughters, Dee (Robert) McCarty and Debra (Robert) Patterson, both of Pontiac; Sharon (Kevin) Schraeder, Springfield; and Robin (Randall) Sorensen, South Wilmington; one brother, Charles (Rita) Wright, Pontiac; one sister, Lois Russell, Pontiac; and 13 grandchildren. His father and one sister, Shirley Hastert, preceded him in death. He retired from Trico Paving in 1991 after 30 years. He was a member of South Wilmington Firemans Park and Beach. He was a U.S.

Army veteran of Korea, February 1951 to December 1953. He was educated in A.0. Marshall schools. Bloomington-Normal Francis R. Brown Francis NORMAL The funeral for Francis R.

Brown, 86, of 601 Normal Normal, will be 11 a.m. Thursday at University Christian Church, Normal. The Rev. Arthur F. Headley and the Rev.

James H. Turner Jr. will officiate. Entombment will be at Park Hill Mausoleum, Bloomington. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m.

Wednesday at Stubblefield- Froelich Francis Memorial Brown Home, Normal. He died at 2:08 p.m. Sunday (Aug. 12, 2001) at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.

Memorials may be made to the Francis and Helen Brown Math Scholarship Fund of Illinois State University Foundation in care of Bruce W. Brown, 8 Crystal Court Bloomington, IL 61704; or University Christian Church, 206 North St. Normal, IL 61761. He was born Dec. 19, 1914, at Fairbury, a son of Edwin H.

and Annie L. Besgrove Brown. He married Helen Tucker on Aug. 22, 1940, at Decatur. She died Sept.

15, 1998. Surviving are four sons, Robert Alan (Cynthia) Brown, Canton, David Lee (Christa) Brown, Des Moines; Bruce William (Kay) Brown, Bloomington; and Mark Leslie (Lydia) Brown, North Oaks, 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. His parents, two grandsons, three brothers and one sister preceded him in death. Dr. Brown earned a bachelor's degree at Illinois State Normal University, an MA at Columbia University in New York and a doctorate of education from the University of Illinois.

He taught mathematics in Decatur at Centennial Junior High School and at Decatur High School. He was civilian instructor administrator at Chanute Field, Rantoul from 1941 to 1944, and served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II in the China, Burma, India Theatre. He taught math at Millikin University, Decatur, from 1946 to 1949, and was Professor of Math at Illinois State University from 1949 to 1977. He also served as assistant director of summer session and was director of the Division of Continuing Education and Public Service 1958- 1977.

Other professional activities included being a member of the evaluation teams in teacher education and chairman of Alumni Outstanding Achievement awards. He was author of Numbers and Operations, and a mathematics elementary series for grades 1 through 8. He was a former president of the Illinois Annuitants Association and remained an active emeritus member of the board. Dr. Brown was a member of Phi Delta Kappa, Kappa Phi Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, Kappa Mu Epsilon and Kappa Delta Pi.

He was a member of University Christian Church, where he had served as and elder and trustee. He served on the advisory board of The Salvation Army, was a member of the Normal Planning Commission, as well as the McLean County Regional Planning Commission. He was co-founder of the State of Illinois Arson Prevention Commission, served as Regional Advisor for Senior Olympics and the McLean County Senior Volunteer Commission. He was a long time active member of Bloomington Kiwanis Club, where he was named a Hixon Fellow in 1999. Dr.

Brown served as an official at numerous I.S.U. sporting events for over 50 years. He was recipient of the Illinois State Friends of Sport Award, the Alumni Association Humanitarian Award, State University Retirement Association Hall of Fame, and Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. His life activities included involvement in other numerous community, civic and professional endeavors. Francis loved his family, university, church and this community.

Edith Elliott-Kempster BLOOMINGTON Edith M. Elliott-Kempster, 96, of Pekin, formerly of Canton and Bloomington, died at 10:15 a.m. Monday (Aug. 13, 2001) at Pekin Manor. Her graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m.

Thursday at White Chapel Memory Gardens, Canton, the Rev. Matthew Keith officiating. There will be no visitation. OaksHines Funeral Home, Canton, is in charge of arrangements. She was born July 7, 1905, at Bloomington, a daughter of John and Sarah Fogel Deerwester.

She married Earl Elliott on May 23, 1923, at Peoria. He died May 19, 1966. She married Russell Kempster Nov. 18, 1979, at Canton. He died April 2, 1985.

Survivors include four daughters, Nancie (James) Thompson, Pekin; Jean (Berlyn) Roberts, Kankakee; Betty Adams, Washington; and Rose Neatby, Pittsburgh; 15 grandchildren; many greatgrandchildren; several greatgrandchildren; one brother, Bob Deerwester, Bloomington; and two sisters, Mary Erps and Louella Busick, both of Bloomington. Her parents and one son, Allen Elliott, preceded her in death. Margaret Graham BLOOMINGTON The funeral of Margaret Kay Graham, 52, of Bloomington, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Metzler Froelich Memorial Home, Bloomington. The Rev.

Ken Graham will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Saybrook. Visitation will 1 be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the memorial home. Margaret She died at Graham 9:40 a.m.

Sunday (Aug. 12, 2001) at BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal. Memorials may be made to Vale Baptist Church of Bloomington or the American Cancer County Relay for Life. She was born Aug. 9, 1949, at Hillsboro, a daughter of John and Nelda Smith Blankenship.

She married Gilbert Graham on Nov. 3, 1979, at Saybrook. He died Feb. 19, 1990. Survivors include her stepmother, Lela Blankenship, Greenville; four sisters, Sue (Elvin) Cripe, Peggy (Fred) Curry and Nancy (Kenney) Slatton, all of Greenville; and Fran (Charles) Massie, Bloomington; three brothers, Tom (Sue) Blankenship, Naperville; Jake (Karen) Blankenship, Coffeen; and Dick (Billie Jo) Blankenship, Don- nellson.

Sixteen nieces and nephews and 14 great-nieces and nephews also survive. Her parents and one brother preceded her in death. Marge was a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church, Coffeen. She was a 1967 graduate of Mulberry Grove High School. She had worked at State Farm Insurance, Bloomington, for 34 years.

She enjoyed golfing, traveling and spending time with her family. Charlotte M. Hayden NORMAL Charlotte M. Hayden, 94, of 901 N. Main Normal, died at 7:55 a.m.

Monday (Aug. 13, 2001) at McLean County Nursing Home, Normal. Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Bloomington. Burial will be in St.

Mary's Cemetery, Bloomington. Visitation will be from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday at KiblerSmith Memorial Home, Bloomington. Memorials may be made to the Community Cancer Center. Mrs.

Hayden was born Sept. 9, 1906, in Hold- Charlotte Hayden er, a daughter of Thomas P. and Mary Schlink Murray. She married Thomas J. Hayden on Aug.

24, 1933, in Bloomington. He died July 24, 1950. Survivors include two sons, (Margaret Ann) Hayden, Normal; and Jerry (Sally) Hayden, rural Bloomington. Also surviving are a grandson, John (Kim) Hayden, Chicago; and great twins, Jack and Riley Hayden. She continued to live and farm the family farm east of Bloomington for many years.

She was chosen Career the Year in 1976 by the Blooming Normal Business and Professional Women's Club. She was a member of Holy Trinity Church and its Altar Rosary Society, and the Altrusa Club of America. Evelyn Taylor BLOOMINGTON Evelyn Mildred Taylor, 84, of 2621 Gamma Road, Flower Mound, Texas, formerly of Bloomington, died at 4 a.m. Friday (Aug. 10, 2001) at her residence.

Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at East Lawn Funeral Home, Bloomington, Pastor Dan Delzell officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Evelyn King of Kings Taylor Lutheran Evelyn Taylor Church, in care of Dolores Reining, 2621 Gamma Road, Flower Mound, TX 75028. Mrs. Taylor was born Dec. 10, 1916, in Bloomington, a daughter of Carl Robert and Martha Hannah Seeger Gerth. She married Russell Wayne Taylor on July 6, 1938, in Bloomington.

He died July 2, 1992. Other survivors include a daughter, Dolores "Dee" (Terry) Reining, Flower Mound; a son, Wayne Allen (Joan) Taylor, Hyattsville, a sister, Helen Sieg, Bloomington; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. One son, Gerald Lee Taylor, and three brothers preceded her in death. She was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a current member of King of Kings Lutheran Church in Highland Village, Texas. She was a housekeeper for ISU for many years before she retired.

Gary Tindall BLOOMINGTON Gary Walter Tindall, 68, of Largo, father of two Bloomington residents, died Friday (Aug. 10, 2001) at his residence. His funeral will be at 1 Wednesday at Wares Grove Lutheran Church, Butler, the Rev. Gerald Freudenberg officiating. Burial will be in Wares Grove Cemetery, Butler.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Bass-Patton Memorial Home, Hillsboro, is charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Destroyer Escort Sailors Association or Hospice of the Florida Suncoast.

Area survivors include two daughters, Robin Billington and Laura Tomevi, both of Bloomington..
