A2 The Pantagraph Friday, August 8, 2003 www.pantagraph.com MORNING WAKEUP FlickFaet What'slJp'r 9 News A -Siw IS '1L Marilyn Manson not welcome at Six Flags DARIEN CENTER, N.Y. Marilyn Manson wiU have to sit out the Six Flags Darien Lake stop on the 2003 Ozzfest tour. The amusement park says the shock rocker's act is not appropriate for the venue. Manson, known for his ghastly, cadaverous look and macabre lyrics, is usually considered one of the headliners of the tour, which also includes artists such as Korn, Disturbed, Chevelle and Ozzy Osbourne. Darien Lake is the only venue on the 30-city tour so far to refuse Manson's performance, The Buffalo News reported Wednesday.

Being banned from shows is nothing new for Manson, whose suggestive, theatrical stage show has made him the target of religious and conservative groups. "Contractual agreement gives us the right to restrict artists from performing in our concert venue," said a statement by Six Flags. "We decided to pass on the Marilyn Manson performance." Manson told the newspaper, "Marilyn Manson is simply too dangerous for Darien Lake." Ozzfest is on stage at Six Flags Darien Lake on Monday. But this, after all, is Santa Fe. And it's where Judge Frances Gallegos has placed offenders in her new alternative sentencing program a tai chi class complete with a Japanese-style tea service and meditation aided by acupuncture.

Instructor Mark De Francis, a doctor of Oriental medicine who works as a psychologist for the state Corrections Department, said he believes violent offenders can benefit from tai chi and meditation. Tai chi, a meditative elf-defense art, is characterized by slow, relaxed movement. De Francis said it teaches practitioners to control impulses and fight their inner opponent. "It's good for people whether they're in trouble or not," he said. Offenders have a choice they can either sign up for the tai chi class or participate in a community service program that involves picking up trash.
