vr SUNDAY, JANUARY 2, 2011 THIS WEEK'S WINNERS: Winter fun I a 1 III 1 i I a -I BAKING COOKIES Baking cookies is something my mother and I love as winter fun. I like to help my mom and she helps me. Allison Howard Grade 3. Oakland Elementary LIKE SNOW, NOT COLD I like winter because of the snow. I don't like the cold weather.

But I do like playing with my dogs outside and one dog pulls our sleigh. Faith Farney Grade 5. Oakdale Elementary VERSATILE SNOW You can dance around in snow. You can make snowmen, snow angels, snowwomen, snowballs, everything. I love snow! Emma Keller Grade 3, Oakdale Elementary HIBERNATING We love to hibernate for fun on a cold winter day.

My favorite part about hibernating is watching a movie and drinking hot chocolate. Zandrea McCreary Grade 5. Sometimes I go outside WON'T LAST SNOW DAYS I like staying at home when school is canceled.

Chenoa Elementary FUN AT GRANDMA'S I like to play in the snow with my cousins. We get out our sleds and go down grandma's hill. After we do all that we come inside and my grandma fixes really good cocoa. Kate Miller Grade 2, Chester-East Lincoln WHICH SNOW? If it is packing snow, we make a snowman. If it isn't, we go sledding.

When we can't feel our feet, we go in and have yummy hot chocolate with candy canes in it. Leah Monagle Grade 5, Christian Life Academy BUILD AN IGLOO It would be awesome to make a giant igloo. The igloo would have a snow bed. I would rest in the snow bed. Then I would go inside and warm up.

I cannot do it without my husky, Kaito. I go riding all around my grandma's house. One time I was riding my sled so fast that I fell off. Coral Wiekert Grade 2, Jefferson Park SMILEY FACES I like to make snow angels. My sister and I like to make smiley faces with our tongues.

Then when we are done, my sister and I have hot chocolate. Jackie Schertz Grade 1, Jefferson Park EUREKA HILL My favorite thing to do in winter is going down hills in Eureka. There is a big hill there, and when you go down it, sometimes you fly. James Early Grade 2. Lowpoint-Washburn SNOW CAVES I prefer to sled, make snowmen, make snow caves and just roll around in the snow.

Snow caves are so warm. You would not believe how warm they are. Here's how: I Take a blank sheet of white paper and turn it sideways. Make it colorful and don't include words, trees, pets or other non-weather-related things. I Print school paper.
